Dr. Chris Anderson Becomes New Director for the Center for Quantitative Science

Dear Colleagues,

One of the great joys of my position as Dean is getting to work with a truly exceptional set of leaders across the College of the Environment. They are a brilliant, insightful and collaborative group of individuals who work tirelessly to support our research, teaching and service mission.  As we prepare for the next academic year there are a number of leadership transitions in the College that I wanted to be sure you were all aware of. These started effective July 1st, unless otherwise indicated.

Coming into leadership we have:

Chris Anderson (Director, Q SCI, effective August 2nd)

Ginger Armbrust (Associate Dean of Research, effective Sept.15th)

Susan Hautala (Interim Director, Oceanography)

Terrie Klinger (Interim Faculty Director, Washington Sea Grant)

Monika Moskal (Director, POE)

Clare Ryan (6-month Acting Director, School of Environment and Forest Sciences while Dan Brown is on sabbatical)

David Schmidt (Chair, Earth and Space Sciences)

I’d also like to extend my deep gratitude to the outgoing leadership: Beth Gardner (Director, Q SCI through August 1st), Shuyi Chen (Associate Dean of Research until Sept.15th), Rick Keil (Director, Oceanography), Kate Litle (Interim Director, Washington Sea Grant), Gary Handwerk (Director, POE) followed by Kristi Strauss (Interim Director, POE), and Eric Steig (Chair, ESS).

We are so lucky in the College to have such an outstanding group of leaders, both outgoing and incoming. The collegiality and leadership commitment here is unlike any other institution I have observed, and these last few years have been especially challenging times to be in leadership. Please take a moment to thank those who have worked so hard for you, and welcome those coming into these new roles.

Yours,

Maya
